Ultrasilencer Special Edition by Pia Wallén for Electrolux.

I discovered this on yatzer a very inspiring blog by interior designer Costas Voyatzis and I must say that if ever there was to be “a dream vacuum cleaner” (imagine such a category…) that would be it. It’s just perfect ! I love white and orange so much, and I even think in a small appartment like mine I could let this one apparent happily since I do not have a spot to hide my own ugly one (which I bought a long time ago when vacuum cleaners had not yet started to become interesting)…

It reminds me of Jasper Morrison’s Breakfast Set for Rowenta – let’s just hope it does not have the flaws the Rowenta products had.

(It also reminds me a bit of a version of the Tissot Danica Patrick T-Touch watch that I liked a lot, because of the few touches of red upon the white leather).

But anyway, once again, there’s nothing like simplicity in design. This thing could well be the ultimate vaccum cleaner for some time.

Thanks for your sweet comment !

I answered on your blog though and I really prefer this vacuum cleaner to the Dyson x Miyake, but maybe the Dyson is way too avant-garde…

Take care,

anne

hi anne,

i accidently saw your entry on your blog. you mentioned simplicity is what its all about … yes and no: too simple leads to confusion as well. think of the keyboardless powerbook that apple (luckily did not!) launched: http://www.theonion.com/content/video/apple_introduces_revolutionary?utm_source=embedded_video

donald norman himself claimed as well, that people need clear visible guidance when it comes to product interfaces… which leads possibly (!) to less simplicity..

but after all, i wanted to say that this vacuum cleaner in the end looks and feels like well a vacuum cleaner. just by making it white with flashy red lines doesnt make it much different i reckon. i could imagine a cleaner which i d like not to hide in some closet if i dont have the space.but why do vcleaners always look like they do? why not completly (!) different (but still usable as vacuum cleaners)? i mean as well going away from the formal language of a vacuum cleaner… lets be a bit daring about it, no?

:)

cheers and have a good one..

Ben
